Mrs\u00a0Emmeline Pankhurst\u00a0considered that the threat posed by Germany was a danger to all humanity, and that the British government needed the support of all citizens. They persuaded the WSPU to halt all militant suffrage activities until fighting on the European mainland ended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1918&nbsp;<\/strong>On&nbsp;<strong>6<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;February<\/strong>&nbsp;the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Representation_of_the_People_Act_1918\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Representation of the People Act<\/a>&nbsp;passed, allowing landowning women over the age of 30 to vote. On&nbsp;<strong>11th November<\/strong>&nbsp;the Armistice was signed. World War I ends On&nbsp;<strong>21st November<\/strong>&nbsp;the passing of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Parliament_(Qualification_of_Women)_Act_1918\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Qualification of Women Act<\/a>&nbsp;gave women over 21 the right to stand for election as an MP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1919&nbsp;<\/strong>On<strong>&nbsp;23<sup>rd<\/sup>&nbsp;December<\/strong>&nbsp;the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sex_Disqualification_(Removal)_Act_1919\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act<\/a>&nbsp;Passed permitting women to train for professions like the law and accountancy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1928&nbsp;<\/strong>On&nbsp;<strong>2<sup>nd<\/sup>&nbsp;July&nbsp;<\/strong>the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Representation_of_the_People_(Equal_Franchise)_Act_1928\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Representation of the People (Equal Franchise Act)&nbsp;1928<\/a>&nbsp;grants the vote to all women on equal terms with men (over 21).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2013 8<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;June<\/strong>&nbsp;was the centenary of the death of Emily Davison; Commemorative events took place at Westminster, Epsom and Ewell, Epsom Racecourse and in Morpeth, Northumberland (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Emily-Inspires-461592693913020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Emily Inspires Facebook<\/a>).&nbsp;A simple plaque was placed near the spot where she walked on to the course on the&nbsp;<strong>4th June 1913<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"595\" src=\"https:\/\/www.emilydavisonmemorial.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/DSC_0374.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-839\" style=\"width:736px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.emilydavisonmemorial.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/DSC_0374.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.emilydavisonmemorial.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/DSC_0374-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.emilydavisonmemorial.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/DSC_0374-768x457.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.emilydavisonmemorial.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/DSC_0374-850x506.jpg 850w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A simple wooden plaque was placed Epsom Downs Racecourse on the 100th Anniversary of her death.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>2018&nbsp;6<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;Feb<\/strong>&nbsp;was the centenary of some women getting the vote and was the official start of the Emily Davison Memorial Project campaign to install a statue of Emily in Epsom town centre.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1914\u00a0World War I starts.
