Found in Emily\u2019s effects were two suffragette flags, the return stub of her railway ticket to London, her race card, a ticket to the WSPU Summer Festival at the Empress Rooms in Kensington later that day and a diary with appointments for the following week. The policeman\u2019s notebook, who was one of the first on to the track, is on display at Bourne Hall Museum, Ewell.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"302\" height=\"180\" src=\"https:\/\/www.emilydavisonmemorial.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/EpsomDerby.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-828\" style=\"width:507px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.emilydavisonmemorial.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/EpsomDerby.jpg 302w, https:\/\/www.emilydavisonmemorial.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/EpsomDerby-300x180.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 302px) 100vw, 302px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>On<strong>&nbsp;8<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;June,&nbsp;<\/strong>Emily died of her injuries at the Cottage Hospital in Epsom on&nbsp;<strong>10<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;June<\/strong>, at the inquest<strong>,<\/strong>&nbsp;Davison\u2019s half-brother, Captain Henry Davison, gave evidence about his sister, saying that she was,&nbsp;<em>\u201ca woman of very strong reasoning faculties, and passionately devoted to the women\u2019s movement\u201d<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The verdict of the court was that&nbsp;<em>\u201cMiss Emily Wilding Davison died of a fracture of the base of the skull, caused by being accidentally knocked down by a horse through wilfully rushing on to the racecourse on Epsom Downs during the progress of the race for the Derby: death was due to misadventure\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"398\" height=\"351\" src=\"https:\/\/www.emilydavisonmemorial.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/ticket-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-827\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.emilydavisonmemorial.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/ticket-1.jpg 398w, https:\/\/www.emilydavisonmemorial.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/ticket-1-300x265.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 398px) 100vw, 398px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1913\u00a0On\u00a0June 4th\u00a0Emily attended the Epsom Derby where she ran out in front of\u00a0King George V\u2019s\u00a0horse Amner and was fatally injured.
