Emily Davison Memorial Project are pleased to announce that Christine Charlesworth MRBS SWA<\/strong><\/a> is our chosen artist for the creation of a life size sculpture of Emily to be placed in Epsom Town centre. Christine specialises in figurative sculptures and portraiture.<\/p>\n\n\n

An elected member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors and the Society of Women Artists, Christine specialises in figurative sculptures and portraiture. In 2010 she was chosen as one of the 10 official Olympic artists by BT, leading up to and including, the London 2012 Olympics. Her Sports figures show not just their strength and power, but also the focus and determination of each athlete. Her sculpture \u2018Winning Shot\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, the action portrait of Paralympic Basketball player Ade Adepitan MBE, won the ASC sculpture award at the Mall Galleries, London and was purchased in Bronze by Woking Borough Council, also by Sir Keith Mills GBE, for his London offices and Enham Trust in Hampshire. The action figure \u2018Sprint<\/em><\/strong>\u2019 also won a sculpture award, A Bronze \u2018Diving In\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0was purchased by University of Surrey Sports Park, Guildford and \u2018We Carried the Flame\u2019<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0was purchased by Waverley Borough Council for their Council Offices in Godalming and by BT for their offices in the BT Tower, London.<\/p>\n\n\n

Other public sculptures include \u2018Ian Ricketts\u2019<\/em><\/strong> for University of Surrey, \u2018Lord Noon <\/em>KT,<\/em> MBE\u2019<\/em><\/strong> for Noon & Kerry Foods\/Bombay Halwa\/Noon Hospital in Rajasthan\/University of East London,. \u2018Seeds of Hope\u2019<\/em><\/strong> (two life-size figures) for Guildford Cathedral, \u2018Out of Reach\u2019<\/em><\/strong> (life size figure) for Royal School, Haslemere and \u2018Oranges and Lemons\u2019<\/em><\/strong> (5 life-size portrait figures) for Ramster Gardens, Surrey. \u2018Sprint\u2019<\/em><\/strong> was commissioned as a life-size figure for Wing Tai Developments and takes pride of place at the entrance to their luxury Homantin Hillside Development in Hong Kong. Keeping with the figurative theme, but with a more contemporary approach, Christine produced \u2018<\/em>The People of Guildford\u2019<\/em><\/strong> for the Taylor Wimpey development at Station View, Guildford. This depicts the \u2018everyday\u2019 people of Guildford as 36 double-sided,stainless steel cut-outs, both sides of 43 metre railings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trained at Wolverhampton College of Art 1965 \u2013 1968 Christine has followed a varied career, including fine art and design, working in the fashion industry, the building industry and also working with young people & adults with learning disabilities. Sculpture has always been of particular interest and Christine now concentrates on the form of art that really inspires her. She usually works in clay, making a rubber mould of the finished artwork for casting in Bronze or resin, but she also enjoys working with fabricated steel to produce artwork of a more contemporary design. With both these styles of sculpture, Christine endeavors to capture life and movement in each piece of her work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2000, as well as a number of limited edition pieces, Christine has completed over 60 private and public commissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2017 Christine was awarded a gold medal at Chelsea Flower Show for her sculpture contribution in the Scotts Miracle-Gro \u2018Come to your Senses Eco-therapy Garden\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her sculptures are in many private collections throughout UK, Europe, Australia, Caribbean, Singapore, Russia, Hong Kong, India and USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
